A group of students came up with the idea of making a school club to help save the environment. Tanya Brunton, Alicia Morton, Gina Montgomery, Clive Forsyth, Jim O’Sullivan and Carl Johnson created the Nature Madness Club and won the award for the best student work.
At first their club only had 30 members, but word soon got around that Nature Madness was fun and less than a month later they had over 300 students. Now, they are thinking of asking for the help of students from other schools.
Nature Madness members took part in lots of after-school activities. They took classes to find out about pollution, recycling and conservation. After that, the members organised different events and activities such as recycling or clean-up days, planting trees, and helping stray animals.
The mayor gave each student a gold medal for their good work. Their teacher, Barbara Mac Alpine, said at the ceremony, "I’m very proud of my students. They show that you don’t have to wait until you’re grown up to do important things."

People travel by train, by plane, by boat, and by car. All ways of travelling have their advantages and disadvantages. And people choose one according to their plans and destinations.
If we are fond of travelling, we see and learn a lot of things that we can never see or learn at home, though we may read about them in books and newspapers and see pictures of them on TV. The best way to study geography is to travel, and the best way to get to know and understand people is to meet them in their own homes.

Travelling.
Almost all people are fond of travelling. It is very interesting to see new places, another towns and countries. People may travel either for pleasure or on business. The-re are various methods of travelling. For me there is nothing like travel by air; it is more comfortable, more convenient and, of course, far quicker than any other method. There is none of the dust and dirt of a railway or car journey, none of the trouble of changing from train to steamer and then to another train.
With a train you have speed, comfort and pleasure combined. From the comfortable seat of a railway carriage you have a splendid view of the whole country-side. If you are hungry, you can have a meal in the dining-car; and if a journey is a long one you can have a wonderful bed in a sleeper.
Travelling by ship is also very popular now. It is very pleasant to feel the deck of the ship under the feet, to see the rise and fall of the waves, to feel the fresh sea wind blowing in the face and hear the cry of the seagulls.
Many people like to travel by car. It is interesting too, because you can see many filings in a short time, you can stop when and where you like, you do not have to buy tickets or carry your suitcases.
A very popular method of travelling is hiking. It is travelling on foot. Walking tours are very interesting. Hitch-hiking is a very popular method of travelling among young people. But it is not so popular in our country as abroad.
People are fond of traveling. They spend their holidays traveling. They travel to see other countries and continents, to learn a lot about people’s traditions, to enjoy picturesque places. It is interesting for them to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food.

These are many ways of traveling - by train, by plain, by ship, on foot. Everyone chooses his favourite one. My favourite way is traveling by plain. And not because it is very comfortable. It is exciting. I also like traveling by train. I’ve traveled this way a lot. When you are in the train you can see the beauty of nature.
I envy the tourists because I think that they study geography traveling and visiting different parts of the world. They can tell you many things which you didn’t know before.
They are interesting people from whom you can learn much new for yourself. Any kind of travel helps you to understand many things that you can never see or learn at home. Though you may read about them in books and newspapers.
As for me I’d like to have a coach tour to some foreign country. Coach tours are planned and I’ll have a chance to do a lot of sightseeings and have a good rest at the same time.

Many, many years ago in the 10th century there lived a beautiful Belarusian princess of royal blood Barbara Radziwill. She lived in a castle in Nesvizh with her two brothers, Mikalai Radziwill Chorny and Mikalai Radziwill Rudy. Her parents died when she was a little girl and her brothers took care of her.
One day a ball was held in the castle. Zhygimont, the king of Poland, was invited to the ball. Zhygimont was tall and very handsome with dark hair and blue eyes. When he saw Barbara, he fell in love at first sight. Though Barbara’s brothers and Zhygimont’s mother, Bona Sfortsa, were against their love, they still continued to see each other and then married secretly.
When Bona Sfortsta found out about their marriage, she was very angry and decided to kill Barbara. She gave her a poisoned ring. Soon Barbara fell seriously ill and doctors couldn’t help her. In a month she died. She was buried in Belarus but her grave was never found.
Zhygimont couldn’t forget Barbara. He found a magician and asked him to help him see Barbara again. The Magician agreed but said that Zhygimont couldn’t touch the ghost of Barbara. At night, when Zhygimont saw Barbara, he couldn’t keep his word. He ran up to Barbara and tried to touch her. Barbara disappeared. Zhygimont couldn’t live without Barbara and died. Since that time the castle of Nesvizh has been visited by the ghost of the beautiful woman. People call it the Black Lady.

things. First of all America is the name of the country whose

and ships to make a voyage to India. So with three small
ships Columbus and his men sailed west. They sailed for three
weeks and then on October 12, they saw an island. It was
situated in Central America. But Columbus didn’t know that
then. He thought he was in Asia and gave the people he met
on the island the name of Indians. Altogether1

before he died in 1506.
People began to speak
about the new land as “the
New World” saying that
