1. Maslenitsa Масленица
Since long ago there is a tradition in Russia to say “goodbye” to winter and “hello” to spring. The holiday of seeing off of the winter is called Maslenitsa. The concert is held in our city on this matter, the artists sing age-old songs, chastushkas and organize practical jokes. People take part in different competitions, ride horses and drink hot tea with pancakes not to be frozen. The pancakes are the main attribute of this festival because a pancake is a symbol of the sun. The festival always ends in burning of a big man of straw. The Lenten fast begins after Maslenitsa for orthodox believers. On Forgiveness Sunday in the morning my whole family goes on a visit to my grandmother. She bakes the most delicious pancakes with different fillings. In the afternoon I meet with friends and we go to the central square and see street festivities. I consider that this festival brings people together and let them enjoy themselves and meet the spring together.
С давних пор на Руси принято провожать зиму и встречать весну. Праздник проводов зимы называется Масленица. У нас в городе по этому поводу проходит концерт, артисты поют старинные песни, частушки и устраивают розыгрыши. Люди участвуют в разных конкурсах, катаются на лошадях и чтоб не замёрзнуть пьют горячий чай с блинами. Блины считаются самым главным атрибутом этого праздника, так как блин символизирует солнце. Праздник всегда заканчивается сжиганием большого соломенного чучела. Для православных людей после масленицы начинается Великий пост. В прощеное воскресенье, мы с утра идём всей семьёй в гости к бабушке. Она печёт самые вкусные блины, делает их с разной начинкой. Днём я встречаюсь с подругами, и мы идём на центральную площадь смотреть народные гулянья. Я считаю, что этот праздник сближает людей и позволяет им вдоволь повеселиться и встретить долгожданную весну вместе.

Maslenitza is one of the most favourite holidays in our country. It lasts from Monday till Sunday.
It comes either at the end of February or at the beginning of March, this is so-called movable festival. In 2002, Maslenitza took place in March (from 3d up to 9th).
This holiday means the end of winter and the spring coming. It has pagan origin. During this holiday people visit each other, children play snowballs, light bonfires, enjoy horse-sledging.
During these days people should avoid eating any kind of meat, but they are to eat much butter, cheese, sour cream, lots of pancakes.
Lent follows Maslenitza, it is the strictest and long holiday, it lasts 7 weeks. During these weeks people avoid eating fat meals, meat and there are few entertainments.
People must work hard, pray and clean their soul.

Масленица — один из самых любимых праздников в нашей стране. Он длится с понедельника по воскресенье.
Он проходит либо в конце февраля, либо в начале марта, это так называемый праздник непостоянной даты. В 2002 году Масленица проходила с 3 по 9 марта.
Это праздник перехода от зимы к весне. В это время люди ходят в гости друг к другу, жгут костры, капаются на санях, запряженных лошадьми.
В эти дни люди должны избегать употребления в пищу любого мяса, но могут есть много масла, сметаны, сыра, блинов.
После Масленицы наступает Великий пост, самый строгий и длинный, он длится семь недель. В это время люди не едят жирной пищи, мало развлекаются.
Люди должны много трудиться, молиться, очищать свою душу.

Today we were and Hermitage. We saw lots of beatiful paintings and old things. I really liked the vase which was near the entrance. Also we were in the cafe and played some games on street.

У меня есть много домашних животных: собаки, куры, черепахи. Но я хочу рассказать об одном из них. Берта – немецкая овчарка. У неё большой черный носик. Карие глазки, которые всегда посмотрят на тебя так жалобно, что отдашь все, что хочешь и не хочешь. Ушки стоят и слышат каждый шорох, малейший звук. Конуса – образная симпатичная мордочка. Длинный хвостик, который всё время крутится. Шёрстка у неё черно – рыженькая, в некоторых местах видны беленькие пятнышки. Берта – подвижная собака, она всегда в движении. То скачет с пня на землю и обратно, то таскает палку, то без остановки бегает вокруг хозяев. Но она не глупая и выполняет основные команды: «Ко мне!», «Сидеть!», «Место!», и другие. Моя Берточка очень ласковая. Обязательно залезет под руку или обнимет лапами, очень любит лизать руку и лицо. Вот какое удивительно умное и красивое животное живёт у меня дома. Умная и воспитанная собака – это образец верности и преданности своему хозяину, то есть мне.

During Pancake week, meat was completely excluded from food, but dairy products and all kinds of fish were still allowed to be consumed. Pancake week is not only a happy holiday, but also the most satisfying. Shrovetide lasts a week. In the old days, the people called it "krasotochka", "sugar mouth", "honest carnival", "merry", "perepelochka", "veduh", "yasochka."The traditional part of the holiday remains to this day riding on horses.
